Sri Lanka’s Anti-Imperialist National Forum Urges UN to Act Against Alleged US Military Threat to Venezuela

 The  Anti-Imperialist National Forum of Sri Lanka has called on the United Nations to intervene and prevent what it describes as an impending military operation by the United States against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

In a memorandum submitted to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today, the Forum stated that the deployment of US Navy ships in the Caribbean Sea near Venezuelan waters in September demonstrated Washington’s readiness for military action. The organization said the United States has made “unfounded accusations” that the Venezuelan government and President Nicolás Maduro are linked to criminal networks involved in illegal drug trafficking.

According to the Forum, the United States is “fabricating false charges to justify the forcible entry into Venezuelan waters” despite evidence that Venezuela is not a leading sponsor of drug trafficking operations targeting US territory. The group urged the international community and the United Nations to take immediate steps to stop what it called an “attempted invasion” under the guise of counter-narcotics operations.

The Forum also claimed that US Navy personnel had entered Venezuelan territorial waters and that several Venezuelan civilian vessels were attacked, allegedly resulting in the deaths of more than 20 citizens.

In its statement, the Forum criticized the Nobel Peace Prize Committee for awarding the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who has publicly supported foreign intervention in Venezuela.

The memorandum, analyzing what the Forum described as a “US-led hybrid warfare strategy and color revolution tactics,” was signed by prominent Sri Lankan political leaders and representatives of allied organizations.

Signatories included Dr. Sumith Wanniarachchi, Convener of the National Anti-Imperialist Forum; Wimal Weerawansa, Leader of the National Freedom Front; Professor Tissa Vitarana, Leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party; Dr. G. Weerasinghe, Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka; Vasudeva Nanayakkara, General Secretary of the Democratic Left Front; Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara, Convener of the National Organizations Alliance; Dr. Wasantha Bandara, General Secretary of the Patriotic National Movement; Uvindu Wijeweera, Leader of the Second Generation Party; and Jeewantha Jayatissa, Secretary of the Bolivarian Solidarity of Sri Lanka.
