An event was held on July 3 at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo to introduce the book “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China (Volume V)” to Sri Lankan readers, organized by the China–Sri Lanka Readers Forum. The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Mr. Hu Kaihong, Deputy Head of the Central Office for Cultural and Ethical Progress of China; Mr. Jagath Wickramaratne, Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka; Mr. Madhura Senevirathna, Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education; Mr. Yu Tao, Vice President of the China International Communications Group; and Mr. G. Weerasinghe, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, among many other eminent invitees.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador H E Qi Zhenhong stated that the book clearly demonstrates that Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is a comprehensive, profound, and forward-looking ideological system that advances with the times. He emphasized that the work integrates the essence of Chinese culture and the Chinese spirit of the new era, serving as a scientific guide for building a great modern socialist country and advancing national rejuvenation in all respects through Chinese modernization.

A very good evening to you all!

It is a great honor for me to join you today at this China–Sri Lanka Readers Forum organized for the book “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China (Volume V).” Today, we will jointly explore the profound theoretical ideas and rich practical achievements contained in this work.

I warmly welcome all distinguished guests present today and extend my sincere gratitude to friends from all sectors of society who have long shown interest in and support for China and China–Sri Lanka relations.

Earlier, Mr. Hu Kaihong delivered a detailed and systematic analysis focusing on China–Sri Lanka cooperation and exchanges, and on the fundamental principles and deep essence of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China (Volume V). I believe this has given everyone a deeper understanding of its key positions, perspectives, and methodologies.

Furthermore, Mr. Yu Tao will later provide additional explanations. I would also like to share some of my own reflections gained through personal study.

This book clearly shows that Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is a broad, profound, and forward-moving ideological system. It represents contemporary China and Marxism for the 21st century. It integrates the finest essence of Chinese culture and the Chinese spirit of the new era, serving as a scientific guide for building a modern socialist state and advancing national rejuvenation in all respects through Chinese modernization.

It also provides global contributions by promoting cultural exchange and mutual learning among civilizations, advancing modernization together, and addressing common challenges facing humanity.

The first four volumes (I to IV) of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China systematically present the development and core content of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Since their publication, these volumes have received wide international attention and have played an important role in helping the world better understand China’s development path, governance model, and philosophy.

Building on the ideological foundation of previous volumes, Volume V is an authoritative work that systematically presents the latest achievements of Xi Jinping Thought. It clearly outlines new strategies, perspectives, ideas, and requirements for advancing Chinese modernization. It also elaborates on governance experience of the Communist Party of China, such as putting people first, deepening reform and opening-up, and innovating while upholding fundamental principles.

This book provides the world with a “key of understanding” to better comprehend China and the secret behind its governance success.

It also explains China’s latest approaches to correctly identifying global trends and following the right path in addressing global challenges.

At present, the international environment is undergoing turbulence and transformation. Against this backdrop, Volume V provides a detailed interpretation of the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity and offers scientific answers to the question of how to respond to a changing world.

In addition, it elaborates on the progress of the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative in promoting a better world.

It also demonstrates China’s broad vision and responsible approach in providing new momentum and opportunities to the world through its own development.

After the publication of Volume V, President Xi Jinping also introduced the Global Governance Initiative at the SCO Tianjin Summit, proposing the building of a more just and equitable global governance system.

These four major global initiatives are interconnected and complementary, providing direction to a world in search of solutions and contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions for a shared future of prosperity and well-being.

I would like to emphasize that this book provides new inspiration and guidance for the continued development, revitalization, and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Sri Lanka. The long-standing China–Sri Lanka friendship, spanning more than two thousand years, has always been deeply rooted and flourishing. As China advances its journey of building a modern socialist country through Chinese modernization, Sri Lanka is also striving to strengthen economic development, improve people’s livelihoods, and realize its vision of a “prosperous country and a beautiful life.”

The principles and practical approaches outlined in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China (Volume V)—such as expanding high-level opening-up, promoting high-quality development, and advancing Belt and Road cooperation—also provide valuable inspiration for Sri Lanka.

Next year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Sri Lanka. China is ready to continue strengthening strategic alignment, deepening cooperation in areas such as the port economy, modern agriculture, digital economy, new energy, and poverty reduction. Together, we can create a magnificent future of a China–Sri Lanka community with a shared future.

The China–Sri Lanka Readers Forum is not only for China but also for the world. It reflects the exploration of an ancient civilization moving toward modernization and expresses the responsibility of a major country toward humanity’s future. I believe this Volume will serve as a window for people in Sri Lanka to better understand China in the new era.

Let us build consensus through dialogue, enlighten each other through mutual learning, and shape the future through cooperation. Together, we can build a China–Sri Lanka community with a shared future, bringing greater benefits to both peoples.
