Several Sri Lankan National Organizations Express Condolences over the Earthquake in Venezuela

Several leading national organizations in Sri Lanka have expressed their profound condolences to the people affected by the devastating earthquake that struck La Guaira State, located on the north-central coast of Venezuela, as well as to the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela.

An official message of condolence has been jointly addressed to Her Excellency Delcy Rodríguez, Acting President of Venezuela, by Dr. Wasantha Bandara, Secretary General of the Patriotic National Movement; Vasudeva Nanayakkara, General Secretary of the Democratic Left Front; Jeewantha Jayatissa, Secretary of the Bolivarian Solidarity of Sri Lanka; Sumith Wanniarachchi, Convener of the National Anti-Imperialist Forum; and Uvindu Wijeweera, Leader of the Second Generation Party.

The letter is being formally conveyed through diplomatic channels via Her Excellency Capaya Rodríguez González, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to India.

In their joint statement, the signatories note that the natural disaster occurred exactly 172 days after the beloved leader of the Venezuelan people, President Nicolás Maduro, was abducted by American forces, and state that this tragedy has placed an additional burden on the lives of the Venezuelan people.

The organizations further express their confidence that the Venezuelan people, who have historically demonstrated resilience and the ability to overcome even the gravest challenges, will successfully confront and recover from this disaster as well.

They also commend the governments and peoples of other Latin American countries for coming forward to provide humanitarian assistance and solidarity with Venezuela during this difficult time.
