Israel Accumulates Estimated $15 Billion War Cost After Five Weeks of Conflict

Tel Aviv — Israel has accumulated an estimated $15 billion in costs after five weeks of ongoing conflict with Iran, according to local media reports published on Monday, raising concerns about increasing pressure on the country’s budget and economy.

The reports indicate that the government has requested approximately 39 billion shekels (around $12.5 billion) to sustain military and operational activities. Officials expect further financial requirements in the coming weeks, suggesting that total expenditures could continue to rise.

Part of the financial burden is attributed to government assistance programs aimed at preventing business closures. At the same time, many companies are reportedly operating below full capacity due to disruptions linked to the conflict, including Iranian retaliatory actions.

Civilian-related expenditures alone are estimated to exceed $2.6 billion, contributing to the overall cost of the war and adding strain to public finances and economic stability.

The escalation began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation targeting Iran. The conflict has since resulted in significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure, including industrial facilities, energy networks, and healthcare centers.

In response, Iran has carried out repeated missile and drone attacks targeting locations in Israel as well as U.S. assets across the region. Tehran has also strengthened its presence in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass. This development has contributed to rising fuel prices and broader volatility in international markets.

The situation remains fluid, with ongoing hostilities continuing to impact regional stability and global economic conditions.
