US Amphibious Assault Ship Reportedly Withdraws After IRGC Strikes

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it carried out a series of missile and drone strikes targeting United States and Israeli military-related sites, claiming the attacks forced a U.S. Navy amphibious assault ship to retreat.

According to a statement released on Monday, April 6, IRGC naval and aerospace units conducted what it described as coordinated, impact-oriented operations during the 98th phase of “Operation True Promise 4.” The operation allegedly targeted command, operational, and logistical bases, as well as military-industrial infrastructure linked to the United States and Israel.

In the initial phase, the IRGC claimed it struck the Israeli cargo vessel SDN7 using cruise missiles, resulting in significant damage and fire. Additional missile strikes were reported in areas north and south of Tel Aviv, as well as in Haifa, Be’er Sheva, and Petah Tikva, targeting what the IRGC described as strategic and military-related sites. The statement further claimed that Israeli air defense systems were unable to intercept the incoming missiles.

The IRGC also asserted that the U.S. Navy’s amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli (LHA-7) was struck during the operation. According to the statement, the vessel—reportedly carrying thousands of personnel and aircraft—was forced to withdraw toward the southern Indian Ocean following the attacks. Independent confirmation of this claim has not been provided.

In a separate part of the operation, the IRGC stated that a joint drone production facility allegedly linked to the United Arab Emirates and Israel, along with aircraft stationed at Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, were targeted using drones and missiles.

The statement concluded by warning that operations by Iranian armed forces and allied groups in the region would continue, adding that naval forces are closely monitoring activity in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, with any perceived hostile movement expected to prompt a response.

There has been no immediate confirmation or response from U.S. or Israeli officials regarding the claims.
