Russian Embassy Highlights Humanitarian Aid to Sri Lanka After Cyclone Ditwah

 The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka has drawn attention to the omission of Russian humanitarian assistance in recent media coverage of international aid following Cyclone Ditwah.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Embassy referred to an article published by the Sunday Observer on December 28 that reviewed international support provided to Sri Lanka after the disaster but did not mention assistance from Russia.

According to the Embassy, on December 10 the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) delivered 35 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka in response to official requests from the Sri Lankan authorities. The assistance was aimed at supporting disaster-relief operations and helping communities affected by the cyclone.

The Embassy emphasized that the aid was provided in the spirit of long-standing friendly relations between the two countries and in line with Russia’s policy of offering humanitarian assistance to partner states without political conditions.

The statement called for clarification regarding the absence of references to Russian assistance in some public materials covering international relief efforts, noting that comprehensive and objective reporting of all contributions helps promote transparency, trust, and mutual understanding in international relations.
