Sri Lankan Solidarity Group Urges UN Action Over U.S. Seizure of Venezuelan Oil Tanker

The Bolivarian Solidarity of Sri Lanka has called on the United Nations to urgently intervene over what it describes as violent actions by the United States against Venezuela.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the organization condemned the seizure of a Venezuelan-registered oil tanker by the U.S. Coast Guard. The vessel, M/T Skipper, was reportedly transporting petroleum from Venezuela to Cuba when it was seized on December 10.

The letter, signed by Mr. Jeewantha Jayatissa, Secretary of the Bolivarian Solidarity of Sri Lanka, states that the incident represents a severe blow to Cuba, which is currently experiencing a deep economic, social, and health crisis that the group attributes to ongoing U.S. sanctions.

The organization further alleged that the United States is using its military power to undermine measures taken by the Venezuelan government to sustain its economy amid sanctions imposed by Washington.

According to the Bolivarian Solidarity of Sri Lanka, failure by the UN Secretary-General to intervene could prompt countries with significant investments in Venezuela, as well as those opposed to U.S. actions in Latin America, to openly align themselves with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The group warned that such actions risk escalating into a regional conflict with global consequences, stressing that UN intervention is essential to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
