Expressing condolences to the people and Government of the Union of Myanmar who were affected by the severe earthquake
The earthquake that struck Myanmar in the early hours of yesterday (28) Myanmar time has killed thousands of Myanmar citizens and injured or displaced a similar number, according to media reports. It is also reported that serious damage has been caused to historical Buddhist shrines.
Sri Lanka and Myanmar have a strong religious and cultural relationship, as both Sri Lanka and Myanmar are countries that have built their civilizations according to Theravada Buddhism. Accordingly, we, the people of Sri Lanka, who have built a civilization according to the Buddhist philosophy of Theravada, are also deeply shocked at this time when the Myanmar people are in mourning.
However, just as the Myanmar people have rebuilt themselves during natural disasters in the past, it is our sincere hope that the current ruling government of Myanmar, led by the Myanmar people, will be able to quickly heal economically, socially & politically.
We pray that the light received from Buddhism will be a source of strength for the Myanmar people and the Myanmar government.
